Will Your Employees Be Ready To Return To Work When You Need Them? Utilizing the Readiness To Return to Work Survey (RRWS) For Your Organization | Jan 9, 2008
After a hurricane, storm, power outage or other regional event, an organization does not know who will be able to return to work and when. Yet, the expectation is that people should come back as soon as the workplace is ready. Many times, the workplace is ready to go back on line before peoples' personal residences and responsibilities. The RRWS is a short questionnaire that people can complete in 10-15 minutes. Becasue it is a confidential web based instrument (not administered by the work organization), people will feel less concern about completing it. Individual data is confidential and only the aggregate data is provided to the work organization, thus facilitating the development of programs and policies based on the demographics of the workforce.

Organizational Crisis Management: The Human Factor, part 1 | Oct. 10, 2007
Floods, hurricanes, power outages, layoffs, violence, litigation, earthquakes, fires, hacking, sick building syndrome, strikes, pandemic, terrorism… work crises come in all shapes and sizes.

Presently, most continuity/resiliency plans prioritize infrastructure, IT and security, while minimal significance is given to the human factor. What has been learned in recent years is: It may be easier to get the phone lines back up… and have the computers backed up… however the employees and their families may still be “messed up.” This presentation will focus on pre-incident plans and policies as well as post-incident services and strategies to help mitigate the impact on personnel. It is generally acknowledged that planners conduct an analysis to determine the potential likelihood of an event occurring as well as its impact on operations should that event occur. However, often that analysis does not take into account the dynamics, dilemmas and damage to the workforce. This author has developed the Human Impact Assessment Tool (HIAT) that may used to facilitate an analysis of potential impact on personnel.

This presentation will outline specific, relatively low cost, easy to implement approaches to allay the often long ranging effect of crises on the workforce.

This presentation will be for professionals of all levels and backgrounds.

BCP: The Next Generation | September 12, 2007
While BCP may not be in its infancy, it certainly has not attained a level of full professional maturity. Most of the people currently in the field migrated from a variety of other careers paths. Initially driven by IT, it has become increasingly obvious that this is a myopic perspective that requires input from other departments in order to be a comprehensive contingency plan.

The BC professional of the future will opt for this as a career choice. (S)he will have formal education, require certification and on-going CEUs. As in other professions such as medicine or law, there will be a common language, yet people may choose specialty areas. No longer will “on the job training” be considered enough of a credential for such a critical role within a work organization.

This seminar will focus on BCP, where we are going and how will we get there.
