The New Frontier: The Expanded Role of EAP in Business Continuity Planning
Date: Oct. 24, 2007 |
EAPA Nat'l Conference, San Diego, CA
The current priority in many workplaces goes by a variety of labels: business continuity, continuation of operations, organizational risk management, organizational resiliency crisis management among others. They all relate to mitigating the probability of a crisis from occurring and/or the impact on operations should one occur. Most plans focus on IT, infrastructure, operations and security… with little focus on the “human factor.” HR and EAP are often not included as members of the planning team for a number of reasons. Yet, the impact on employees and their families as a result of any kind of work crisis often dramatically affects the bottom line. While EAPs do a fantastic job of providing debriefings and psychological first aid during the initial phase of a crisis, it is often not until 2-3 months after an incident that the full impact is felt.
This workshop will provide the attendees with a new paradigm and role for the EAP within large and small organizations. It will give the EAP a value added function within the workplace.
